Train Running Late

In Train Running Late you stand you ground in a future, where time has become the ultimate currency. Take your passengers to their destination to gain valuable time while clearing all obstacles in your path. Spend your earnings on upgrades and then start all over again until you run out of time.
Story
You spent your life living day by day, earning less and less, until you realized at this rate you might not make it to tomorrow.
So, with only 2 minutes and 30 seconds on your clock you strolled into the station, took your seat in the driver's cab of your train, and decided that today would be different, today no one could stop you, today you would finally get real use out of the robotic arm perched on top of your train.

I find the game extremely confusing. First time, it said test #97 failed as soon as it started. It did that again while I was on the menu. Nothing indicates how much "money" you have to know if you can buy another train or car. I have no idea why the car shows an increasing number of passengers in the menu. Once I finally got through a map (unable to reach anything on top of buildings) the second level I had no where to put passengers, the doors never open when i pick them up. Also, confused why the train stops or gets stunned whenever it hits those yellow pillar things. I also found the train to be a bit too close to the left edge of the screen, making it difficult to toss obstacles as my mouse was constantly going outside the canvas and thus releasing the mouse button wouldn't drop the object.
Game has potential but there are way too many unclear things going on.
Hey phaelax, thanks for playing! Yes, all these issues has the same root cause, namely the lack of refinement, which is expected in a game made for a pretty short game jam like this. All your feedback would definitely make the game more understandable and enjoyable, but for now, we are not planning to continue the development, as we don't see enough potential in it to make it a successful full fledged game.
Instead, we are focusing on new ideas built on the newly acquired Craftpix asset packs, so stay tuned.
Really cool game! A unique idea with great visuals.
Amazing idea, and really hard, but challenging!
Also, the pixel art is really well-done.
Thank you! And thanks to Craftpix for the assets!
Really fun idea, now I kinda wish every train ahd a big robotic arm so they would actually arrive on tiem T.T
Congrats to the team <3
Thank you!
Nice idea, it was fun.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Super fun, good job! Very intuitive controls and the game feels really polished :)
I like that you can place stuff on top of your train! Always bring your purple laser absorbing shipping container on a train ride hehe
Yes! And since then, players figured out that they can also put the container on the front of the train to act as a passive shield against the gates ;)
Very good game, the gameplay is very fluid. Great work team ! But I'm not sure I understand how to play. I see at the beginning that you can buy other trains, and have more passengers, but how to do it ? And once finished, I always have this message "Test #91 failed". Did I miss something ? Am I stupid (very likely) ? Or is it because the game is not finished yet ?
If you are able to make it for awhile you reach a checkpoint and can spend some of your time to upgrade your ship. I found it a really neat gameplay loop.
Exactly! :)
Thanks ! I just didn't realize that you had to use the obstacles to get through the purple gates, and I was wasting a lot of time because of that. Banger confirmed !
Latest version is now uploaded:
- music
- refined arm movements
- gradually increasing difficulty (less bonus time, more obstacles)
- bigger thruster
- progress bar (to see how much is remaining from the level)
- jaywalking passengers to pick up
- more obstacle types
- small fixes, optimizations
Still in progress:
- more legs to choose from
- maybe sound effects
Until then, try out the current version, and let me know if you have any feedback!
Very cool entry! You guys did a great job!
Thank you! We keep adding new features till the end. Just added time powerups! Check it out!
